IV Administrative History
After taking over Taiwan, the government set up Penghu Prefecture. In 1920,
when reform of the local system was implemented, Penghu Prefecture was
abolished, and Penghu County was established instead, affiliated to Kaohsiung
Prefecture and comprising one town and four villages. On July 1, 1926, Penghu was
again separated and became the Penghu Prefecture we now know.
Penghu Prefecture administers the 63 islands/isles of Penghu Archipelago and
comprises one town and four villages and the Wangan Branch.
