In February 1914, the late Director Uetaki Utaro set up Penghu Light
Incorporated with Ide Hidetaka. The Company originally used a gas-
powered generator with 60 KW capacity to produce electricity. Albeit
unable to distribute electricity in modern ways, the Company saved the
people of Magong from the risks and inconvenience of using oil lamps.
The Company was merged with the Taiwan Communal Electricity
Incorporated in August 1920, and switched from gas-powered generators
to diesel-powered alternatives in 1926. It now owns a 150-horsepower
diesel-fueled machine and a 165-horsepower one and boasts 175,735
candelas.
The current director of the Company, Aoki Tadasu, is from
Kagoshima Prefecture. Ever since he took over the Company in October
1922, Aoki dedicated himself to expanding the business, sparing no effort
to improve Magong people's lives.
Aoki himself is a technician with a profound understanding of
Director Aoki Tadasu generators. While blackouts frequently occurred during the tenure of his
Taiwan Communal Electricity predecessor Kimoto, causing inconvenience to people, power outages no
Incorporated Penghu Branch longer happened after Aoki took the helm, turning Magong into a lit-up
town.
