Page 10 - An Overview of Penghu
P. 10
Preface
Located at the southeast extremity of the Empire of Japan, the 63 islands of the Penghu Archipelago
on the turbulent South China Sea are not only the key to our defense in the south, but also means of
boosting our Southbound Plan.
Taiwan is hardly known to Japanese people, let alone the Penghu Prefecture. Albeit deprived of
resources and suffering from natural disasters, it still strives to fulfill its indispensable duties. Why does
it receive so little recognition and understanding? Penghu residents' antagonism to the Island is utterly
foolish.
Mr. Ibara, the Branch Director of Nanying News, generously shared the true story of Penghu with
the world through his photos. He even went to great lengths to publish An Overview of Penghu, which
satisfies people's curiosity about the Island. We are proud of this book, and people should like and
approve this book. We also hope that the book can reach as many people as possible, thereby fulfilling the
wishes of the author.
