After World War II, the Japanese governor was replaced by the Republic of China(ROC). In 1949, Taiwan Garrison Command enacted "Declaration of Martial Law in Taiwan Province", initiating a long period of coercion. The Taiwan Strait once again made Penghu different from Taiwan. During those years, people longing for liberty played a game of hide and seek here.
