日本統治澎湖，馬公港旋即成為現代化的海軍基地。為了吸引日本本島人民到澎湖定居，以「浦島太郎」的傳說包裝澎湖的意象。
澎湖在日本統治下，短短數年迅速改變，從大正時期的電力設施及昭和時期的自然水廠，逐漸變成摩登的夢之島。
Under Japanese rule, Magong Bay soon shifted to a modernized navy base. To attract people from mainland Japan to settle in Penghu, the colonial governors promoted it with the fairy tale Urashima Tarō.
As new facilities were constructed, such as the power plant in the Taisho eras and tap water system in the Showa era, the Japanese administrators quickly transformed the Pescadores (Portuguese: Fishermen) into a modern archipelago for dreamers.
