Head of the European Economic and Trade Office Lutz Güllner, accompanied by Deputy Head Lukas Gajdos, paid a visit to Penghu County Magistrate Chen Kuang-Fu this morning (16th). Both sides engaged in productive discussions on promoting Taiwan–EU economic and trade cooperation, as well as diverse issues concerning Penghu’s sustainable development, cultural tourism, green energy, and youth returning to their hometowns.
Chen Kuang-Fu noted that the European Economic and Trade Office has long been committed to strengthening friendly relations between Taiwan and the European Union. Its efforts span trade and investment, policy collaboration, cultural and educational exchanges, as well as scientific research and innovation, laying a solid foundation for shared prosperity.
Chen Kuang-Fu pointed out that Penghu is a unique marine archipelago endowed with rich natural landscapes, historical heritage, and profound cultural depth—making it highly suitable for developing sustainable tourism and fostering international cultural exchanges. In recent years, the Penghu County Government has actively pursued policies such as green energy transition, net-zero sustainability, and low-carbon tourism. It has also promoted youth revitalization initiatives and smart transportation development, steadily advancing toward the vision of building a “sustainable and livable island.”
Chen Kuang-Fu expressed his hope that through this exchange, the two representatives would gain deeper insight into Penghu’s geographical features, historical narratives, and cultural landscapes, and, in turn, help promote Penghu within EU member states so that more Europeans may come to appreciate this charming island.
After the meeting, both parties exchanged gifts as a symbol of mutual friendship and cooperative goodwill.
