Magistrate Lai said that the operations of the Community Care Center mainly relies on volunteers’ provision of greetings, care, and establishment of a healthy lifestyle. Through the convenience of the community’s locality and proximity, multiple courses are scheduled for elders in the community to join activities together to maintain good interpersonal relationships. This way, life will be filled with laughter and fun rather than being monotonous.

Lai Feng-Wei said that during his term in office he was the first to lead the nation in commencing lunch and dinner deliveries to the elderly in 1999. The goal of reaching 50% community care center setup in the villages and neighborhoods was reached. He hoped that through local services, community care and concern for elders can be provided, thereby creating a happy family where neighbors are like family. Penghu can also become a harmonious society and one of the social welfare model counties/cities in Taiwan.

According to Speaker Liu Chen Chao-Ling, elderly care is an important item of concern to the county government and council. The Fenggui Community Activity Center was planned and constructed in 2004 during Lai Feng-Wei’s term as the county magistrate. With a 16-year history to date, she voices for the community residents to open a new community activity center that provides a comfortable and spacious activity space for elders.
