Press Section 2019-05-31 377
The Penghu Rehabilitation Fund sponsored by Want Want Holdings Limited made it possible to complete Taiwan's first artificial coral marine garden in 3 years. The results presentation was held on the 31st. Penghu County Magistrate Feng-Wei Lai has extended his gratitude to Chairman Eng-Meng Tsai of Want Want Holdings Limited for his concern over the marine conservation work and in helping Penghu to gather the marine rehabilitation resources. He also urged the people to stop doing things that will endanger the marine ecological resources and jointly protect the ocean.

Feng-Wei Lai indicated that the results of marine garden rehabilitation have gradually emerged. There are 12 operators engaging in marine recreation activities since 2016. The fear of marine rehabilitation is not slowness, but effortless. Everyone should join hands to protect the ocean and make marine rehabilitation possible.

Feng-Wei Lai presented a certificate of appreciation to the "Tsai Yen-ming Charity Foundation" and the "Grateful Social Welfare Foundation," which was accepted by Syue-Jhu Hu. Feng-Wei Lai stated that he is extremely grateful for Chairman Eng-Meng Tsai's 3-year NT$3 million donation to the Penghu Marine Rehabilitation Fund to make the marine coral garden possible, enrich the marine resources and bring benefits to marine ecotourism.

Executive Director Syue-Jhu Hu of Want Want Cultural and Educational Welfare Fund stated that in response to Penghu's marine coral garden cultivation concept, Want Want Holdings Limited has sponsored NT$3 million in three years to create 1000 square meters of coral garden (which is equivalent to the areas of two swimming pools). The results are wonderful, and we hope that we can use the beautiful marine resources to promote ecotourism in Penghu.

Syue-Jhu Hu said that after Eng-Meng Tsai visited Penghu's Marine Life Propagation Station and how the staff sacrificed their weekends and holidays to invest in the rehabilitation of marine resources, he decided to donate NT$3 million in three years. The Agriculture and Fisheries Bureau of Penghu County created the first marine artificial coral garden at Hang Bay of Suogang Village. The goal is to rehabilitate Acropora, mussels, sea urchins and bell snails commonly seen in Penghu and increase the biodiversity of the sea.

In the past three years, the Penghu Marine Garden Cultivation Project has undertaken over ten experience events such as coral transplant brick production, coral ref species breeding, maring education promotion, marine garden snorkeling, coral reef species art creation and marine garden tour guide training. The results were presented via the theme exhibition method on the 31st by providing a snorkeling tour for the people to experience the beauty of the marine coral garden. The staff also provided guidance on the reproduction of coral turtles.
