Kiwanis International Taiwan District Governor Xu Changliu led a delegation of more than 40 board members and key members on a three-day trip to Penghu. On the 13th they visited the county government where they were warmly welcomed by county magistrate Chen Kuang-fu in person, who noted that Kiwanis have long been known for their commitment to public welfare activities such as blood donations and beach clean-ups to serve the community and benefit the people. He also welcomed his guests to return to Penghu to attend the carnival of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World.
Kiwanis International is an international service organization with members around the world, made up of the best representatives from all walks of life. This 44th Meeting of the Supervisors of the Taiwan District of Kiwanis International was held in Penghu as part of a three-day trip to the island county. The Taiwan District donated TWD 30,000 to the Penghu Kiwanis to serve disadvantaged groups on the islands.
Chen Kuang-fu stated that the Kiwanis International is a global service organization dedicated to serving children and their communities. It has a long history of contributions to public welfare activities such as blood donations and beach clean-ups. It upholds the Kiwanis spirit of supporting and caring for the disadvantaged. The county government, likewise, has invested much in outreach to disadvantaged groups in recent years and social welfare spending has expanded. There are 30 community care centers that provide free meals to elderly residents living alone. The price of these meals will be raised from NT$65 to NT$80. Children and pupils from age 2-12 enjoy a 50% discount on flights. Nutritious meals for students will become entirely free of charge by September. All this as part of the county’s policy of caring for the disadvantaged.
Chen Kuang-fu noted that Penghu is a member of the “Club of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World” and has stunning scenery, clear blue ocean water, unspoilt white sandy beaches, delicious seafood, and friendly residents. This year’s annual meeting of the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays in the World will be held in Penghu. Concurrently the county government will host such events as an International Harbor Forum, a yacht show, and the Iron Man International Triathlon. Kiwanis have a standing invitation to return to Penghu any time to experience the unique charm of these islands.
