Penghu County Commissioner Chen and Taichung Mayor Lin sign a letter of intent on jointly promoting “The Most Beautiful Bay Carnival in Penghu, Taiwan 2018” and “2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition”

Take a leisurely tour of Penghu Islands and find health and sustainability in Taichung’s world flora exposition. Penghu County is to host The Most Beautiful Bay Carnival in 2018 while Taichung City is where the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition will take place. To drum up for the two grand galas in Taiwan next year and attract foreign tourists to visit Taichung and Penghu, Taichung Mayor Lin Chia-lung flew to Penghu with the flora expo mascot “Love” on Nov. 24. At a press conference held on the offshore island, Lin and Penghu County Commissioner Chen Kuang-fu signed a letter of intent (LOI) on joining hands in promoting the two major events next year. The cooperation is aimed at boosting tourism markets in the two localities and developing regional tourism.
On Nov. 24 in the afternoon, Mayor Lin showed himself in the First Conference Room of the Penghu County Government building, accompanied by an entourage of subordinates, including Taichung Municipal Tourism and Travel Bureau Director Chen Sheng-shan, Taichung Municipal Construction Bureau Director Huang Yu-lin, Taichung Municipal Agriculture Bureau Wang Jiun-shong, and Taichung world flora expo mascot “Love.” At the site, Lin and his Penghu counterpart Chen signed a LOI, entitled “The Most Beautiful Bay Carnival in Penghu, Taiwan 2018 and the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition.” They exchanged memorial badges and memorabilia as a gesture of goodwill. Taichung world flora expo mascot “Love” met Alauda gulgula, known as the bird of Penghu County, for the first time. They were there to publicize The Most Beautiful Bay Carnival in Penghu, Taiwan 2018 and the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition.
Commissioner Chen appreciates Mayor Lin’s making the effort to come and offer the plan to develop long-term cooperation with Penghu and bring tourists from Taichung to Penghu during Penghu’s off-peak season. He noted that Penghu will host the world’s most beautiful bay carnival next year while the Taichung World Flora Exposition is set to start running on a trial basis on Sept. 1, next year. The flora expo is expected to attract an estimated 10 million visitors during its opening period of more than five months. Through Taichung City Government’s introduction, it is hoped that 5% of the visitors to the flora expo will extend their travel and go from Taichung to Budai port in Chiayi County, where they will board ferries bound for Penghu. An estimated 500,000 tourists will come to Penghu in this way. We hope to see the arrival of friends from the flora expo in Taichung. They will experience the sights and sounds of beautiful beaches in Penghu. We are thankful to Mayor Lin for giving support and advice to Penghu on various occasions, including meetings at the Executive Yuan, in issues ranging from infrastructure construction to budget allocation.
Mayor Lin said Taichung Harbor is one of Taiwan’s gateways, in close proximity to the offshore Penghu Islands. He expressed his expectations for Taichung Harbor and Taichung’s CCK Airport to connect travel between the two places, plus the existing Blue Highway ferry services. The signing of a LOI with the Penghu County Government, Lin said, marks a milestone in the establishment of a sister city-like relationship between the two localities. There is already a tourism alliance in central Taiwan that covers seven cities and counties in the region. It is expected to become stronger with the participation of Penghu County. Lin expected the integrated marketing strategy to create a win-win situation for the two sides, bring more tourists to Penghu, and introduce Penghu to the whole world. The Most Beautiful Bay Carnival in Penghu and Taichung’s World Flora Exposition will be the country’s two major events next year, expected to put Taiwan under more spotlight in the international community and imbue Taiwan with a carnivalesque atmosphere.
The Penghu County Government and Taichung City Government encourage tourist agencies to arrange travel packages associated with The Most Beautiful Bay Carnival in Penghu and the 2018 Taichung World Flora Exposition so as to provide a wider variety of travel options and increase tourism benefits for both sides. They also offer travel discounts as an incentive to boost an exchange of visits between government officials, school teachers and staff, and private sector personnel of the two sides.
